Peshawar: The Sui Northern Gas Pipelines (SNGPL) on Monday announced its decision to install a new eight-inch gas pipeline in the Mingora and Saidu Sharif areas of the Swat district — with the initiative aimed at permanently resolving the issue of low gas pressure in the winter seasons, according to news sources.

This decision was announced during a meeting between Federal Minister of Energy and Power Umar Ayub Khan and Chief Minister (CM) Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Mahmood Khan. The meeting was also attended by high officials of the SNGPL and the Peshawar Electric Supply Company (PESCO).
An official of the SNGPL confirmed that two mega gas supply projects were being developed in order to resolve the issue of low gas pressure in Swat. He further revealed that the development work to supply gas to the Matta area was also in progress, and was likely to completed by September later this year.

CM Mahmood Khan took the opportunity to instruct PESCO to expedite the work on the Kabal grid station and other power projects. In addition, he directed the authorities concerned to introduce e-tendering, e-billing, e-bidding and e-work order systems to complete development projects in the newly merged tribal areas. He also directed that remote areas within the tribal districts should be focused on in the annual development program (ADP) — with this move expected to bring these areas on par with the rest of the province.

Reportedly, the meeting also mulled over a few additional projects proposed for the communication, housing, and public engineering sectors for inclusion in the next year’s ADP.
