Last year, the government had subsidised LNG for domestic consumers and paid PKR 29 billion to avoid passing the higher rates of LNG onto the domestic users.
The average price for LNG falls somewhere around PKR 1,580 per mmcfd as compared to the PKR 300 per mmcfd actually charged on average from domestic consumers.
The Economic Coordination Committee (ECC) is expected to take the decision on this matter during its next meeting where both the gas companies will be presenting their cases to acquire the subsidies.
