Islamabad: The Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited (SNGPL) and the Sui Southern Gas Company (SSGC) have proposed a 100-percent and 20-percent hike in gas prices, respectively, for domestic consumers, a news source reported.

As per the publication, the proposed increase in price is expected to cost domestic consumers PKR 347 billion in bills over the next financial year (FY) 2020-21.

SNGPL has proposed that its gas price be raised to PKR 670 per million British thermal units and SSGC suggested the price of PKR 153 per million British thermal units. The SNGPL consumers will pay additional expenses worth PKR 290 billion and SSGC consumers will bear PKR 57 billion according to the estimates.

The Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) has requested the authorities concerned to provide their recommendations within a fortnight so that the gas prices for state-owned companies could be set for the going financial year.
