Lahore: The Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited (SNGPL) kicked off a drive for the installation of gas meters to thousand of domestic consumers in the three districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), according to a news source on Friday.

The measure will aid the company in controlling gas theft incidents reported in Karak, Hangu and Kohat districts. According to the details revealed, these people were under the false impression that free gas use was a constitutional right.
SNGPL General Manager (Peshawar) Saqib Arbab expressed delight at the compliance of the locals in regards to obtaining gas through legal means, as he spoke to the people of Karak district. He stated that this would aid them in cutting down on-line losses and increasing revenue.

The SNGPL during the tenure of the last government launched a development project by the name of ‘Extension and Rehabilitation of Gas Network’. The project was worth PKR 9 billion and was put on fast tracks in the Karak, Hangu and Kohat Districts. The project was aimed to reduce gas line losses by complete gasification and the installation of meters and so far, 325kms of gas network has been laid down in the aforementioned areas under the first phase of the project.
