The operation was incited by a complaint registered with the Prime Minister’s Online Complaint Portal by a citizen of Rahim Yar Khan, who highlighted the fact that illegal gas pipelines were being installed in the private housing schemes, in clear violation of the approved track. Upon inquiry, irregularities were found and a First Information Report (FIR) was lodged by the SNGPL for further investigation that led to a crackdown.

The department faced some trouble with the locals, who were insistent that they paid for the pipelines and that there was foul play involved. One of the SNGPL officials revealed that the department had formally requested the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) to look into the local’s claim of corruption and foul play involvement.
