Peshawar: A spokesperson for the Sui Northern Gas Pipeline Limited (SNGPL) recently announced that a special task force of the government authority conducted an anti-gas theft drive in the city, during which they managed to disconnect 361 illegal gas connections and replace 168 suspected domestic and commercial meters — a news source reported.

In addition, the task force caught 126 legal domestic consumers pilfering the utility via direct use or meter tampering. The spokesperson revealed that the task force detected a gas theft volume of 8MMCF during the raid. He added that two FIRs had also been registered against the accused parties and that the request for two more was submitted to the police stations concerned.

The spokesperson further revealed that the task force conducted the operation in different parts of Peshawar. These included Ahmed Khel, Bazid Khel, Tehkal, Landi Arbab, GT Road, Jamrud Road, Abdara, Bara Road, Jhagra, Chamkani, Surezai, Badhber, Sufaid Sang, Palosai, Suburbs of Bannu, Warsak Road, Karak, and Landi Jalandar.

The official also revealed that their targets were determined by acting on several different types of leads, including complaints from source reports and those submitted on social media regarding compressor usage.
