There are over 3.2 million pending gas connection applications, indicating the country’s constantly rising demand for gas availability.
Furthermore, the sources say the majority of connection demand comes from Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), and the yearly allotment quota for SNGPL is 500,000 connections per year, compared to 800,000 connection applications received each year.
According to the source, numerous projects for additional gas connections in lawmakers’ constituencies were considered during a recent meeting in Islamabad. The SNGPL officials were instructed to complete these schemes as soon as possible. The said meeting also informed the participants of the number of schemes, outstanding applications, urgent cases, available capacity, quotas, and so on.

To fulfil the needs, the authorities are requesting an increase in the quota. Natural gas, often known as Sui-gas in Pakistan due to its first discovery in the Sui area of Balochistan, is also referred to as white gold due to its significance. The SNGPL has opted to provide LNG connections to newly developed housing schemes in Lahore at significantly higher rates than natural gas to address the prevailing shortfall.
