Islamabad: The federal government is devising a policy concerned with small and medium-scale enterprises (SMEs) which will be finalised by April 11, a news source reported.

Adviser to the Prime Minister (PM) on Commerce Abdul Razak Dawood recently expressed his views on the matter. He was speaking at a meeting of the National Assembly (NA) Standing Committee on Industries and Production.
He said that SMEs had immense economic importance. He added that the SME policy was first approved in 2007. Since then, successive governments have taken various initiatives to promote SMEs in the country.

In response, MNA Sajid Hussain asked the minister to share the draft of the policy with the committee.
Moreover, representatives of the Small and Medium Enterprises Development Authority (SMEDA) briefed the committee about the authority’s objectives and functions.

They said that SMEDA has been tasked with framing the said policy and providing overall planning-related assistance to the SME sector.
