Islamabad: The government has plans to set up Small and Medium Enterprises (SME) Industrial Estate on a land-lease model to decrease the set-up cost, according to a news story published on Monday (April 11).

The Ministry of Industries and Production (MoIP) has asked the Small and Medium Enterprises Development Authority (SMEDA) to cooperate with federal and provincial authorities to establish SME Industrial Estates on government land.
According to MoIP officials, the land for SMEs will be allocated in the existing Industrial Estates, Special Economic Zones (SEZ), and Export Processing Zones (EPZ). It was disclosed that in SEZs and EPZs, small plots will be offered to the SMEs to have a cost-effective setup. The SMEDA will collaborate with national and provincial bodies, that are responsible for developing SEZs under China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), for proper space allocation.

Moreover, to provide off-grid electricity to remote and rural SMEs, a plan has been prepared with the coordination of the Power Division. The Power Division will provide clean energy solutions for SMEs.
