Karak: District Director of Soil Conservation Department Mohammad Yasin Wazir has stated that 100 small dams can be constructed across Karak district, a news source reported. He said this would provide a permanent resolution to acute water shortage of the district.
He further said there were feasible sites for the dams in all the three tehsils, including Karak, Takht-i-Nusrati and Banda Daud Shah. His estimation was that each dam could be built at a cost falling between PKR 1 million and PKR 3 million, and all the dams could be finished at a cost of PKR 150 million.
Meanwhile, Khattak Ittehad President Khursheed Sultan has demanded that the government should divert a portion of the oil and gas royalty funds for construction of small dams in the district. He also contended that a committee should be formed to hold talks with local lawmakers and stress the importance of small dams in the district.
