Lahore: The emergence of large sinkholes in Lahore after heavy rainfall have worried the local motorists, according to a news report. These sinkholes have appeared in Gulshan-e-Ravi, Gulberg’s Hali Road, Multan Road, and Mall Road.
As news started to emerge of sinkholes, officials rushed to the sites. At Gulshan-e-Ravi, Deputy Commissioner (retd.) Captain Anwarul Haq directed the officials to plug the sinkhole as soon as possible and make the road accessible to all. He also directed the wardens to ensure smooth flow of traffic on the road.
The officials from Water and Sanitation Agency (WASA) as well as Lahore Development Authority (LDA) responded to various complaints about the sinkholes from all around the city. Engineers have attributed this to improper earth-filling, compaction and asphalt laying works. The LDA Director General Mr Durrani said that the concerned departments should look into the matter and fix the problem within the next three days so the concerns of the commuters can be adequately addressed.
