Karachi: The Sindh government is seeking inclusion of several Karachi Port Trust (KPT) projects in the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) – a news source reported.
Maritime Affairs Secretary Amir Khawaja said he had tabled several mega projects before the Joint Coordination Committee. At present, JCC is the apex decision-making body working on CPEC.

The proposed projects include a multi-billion freight corridor from KPT to Port Qasim, and a Special Economic Zone (SEZ) on the backwaters of Karachi port.
Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah had previously accorded his approval to the said projects. The Joint Working Group will later take up the issue of the projects’ development in a meeting scheduled for March.

The 40-50km freight corridor linking KPT to Port Qasim will have rail, road and oil pipeline connectivity. An LNG terminal and a power plant will also be constructed on the corridor.
