Karachi: Sindh Chief Minister (CM) Syed Murad Ali Shah on Monday (November 22) announced that the provincial government has envisioned a Union Council (UC)-based Poverty Reduction Programme (PRP) aimed at improving the life quality for people of Sindh, news sources reported.
He said that the programme will be implemented as part of the Rural Support Programme (RSP) that has identified sections of society with the immediate need of support. The households have been identified through surveys with the main focus on women empowerment. As per CM Murad, the RSP initiative was established as a pilot project in 2009 with a budget of PKR 3.3 billion in the Shikarpur and Kashmore districts. With PKR 2 billion, the programme was then expanded to additional districts in Jacobabad and Tharparkar.
As per the outline of the project, it will train and help As many as 9,000 persons will be given vocational training and 10,000 persons will be provided kitchen gardening facilitation. Moreover, 103 union councils (UCs) will be provided support under Village Improvement Programme, and 71 business development groups will be established to provide a platform for better marketing of products.
