Karachi: The Sindh Transmission & Dispatch Company (STDC) and GO Energy Private Limited have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for a 500-megawatt Floating Solar Project at Keenjhar Lake, as reported on June 14.

According to the details, the signing ceremony was attended by Sindh Minister for Energy Nasir Hussain Shah, Secretary Energy Musaddiq Ali Khan, STDC CEO Saleem Shaikh, GO Energy CEO Ammar Ali, and officials from K-Electric. The 500MW project, set to be one of the world’s largest floating solar installations, will feature advanced solar panels and infrastructure tailored for Keenjhar Lake.

It includes laying a 220-kilowatt transmission line to K-Electric’s Dhabeji grid station in Karachi, with letters of intent already provided by both K-Electric and the energy department. Secretary Energy Musaddiq Ahmad Khan highlighted ongoing efforts to deliver cheap and free electricity, including district-level mini-grid stations. The floating solar plant will produce electricity at Rs 15 per unit, cheaper than other power sources.
