Karachi: The Government of Sindh on Tuesday allowed the resumption of inter-city public transport and ride-hailing services in the province from today (Wednesday) onward, according to news sources. The transport services in Sindh were suspended on March 24 as part of the country-wide lockdown imposed to prevent the local transmission of COVID-19.

Transport Minister Syed Awais Qadir Shah made the announcement in a press conference. However, this permission is subjected to the thorough implementation of the standard operating procedures (SOPs) recommended by the Sindh Transport Department for safe inter-city transportation of the passengers. The minister said that a separate set of SOPs had been devised for online ride-hailing services – which will be mandatory for the operators to follow.

Information Minister Nasir Shah said that the transporters will also be required to reduce their fare to facilitate the public. He also appealed to the people to comply with precautionary measures for the safety of everyone.
