Karachi: The Local Government, Housing & Town Planning Department is expected to launch a helpline in a bid to facilitate the masses in their complaint registration efforts, according to news sources. As per officials, the facility will allow the general public to register their complaints regarding all local government issues and the non-provision of services by local councils, development authorities and other provincial institutions.

The four-digit helpline can be accessed by dialling 1093. The public will now be able to register complaints regarding cleanliness, sewerage, stray dogs, water, street light, birth and death certificates, housing and town planning, and land matters. This complaint cell will be managed by the local government, which has promised to resolve the problems faced by the public.

Sindh Minister for Local Government Saeed Ghani had announced the launch of this helpline last year at a press conference. He had further announced the provincial executive’s intention to develop an online complaint portal.
Previously, the Sindh government had announced its decision to bring reforms in the existing local government structure. To this effect, Chief Minister (CM) Syed Murad Ali Shah recently constituted a committee and tasked it with providing suggestions for empowering the Karachi mayor and the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC).
