Karachi: The Sindh government has launched a new housing initiative called “Sasti Basti,” aimed at providing affordable homes to the province’s underprivileged residents, as reported on September 13.

As per details, the announcement was made during the 29th Governing Body meeting of the Human Settlement Authority’s annual budget, chaired by Najmi Alam, Advisor to the Chief Minister for Human Settlement Authority, Livestock, and Fisheries.
Key figures at the meeting included MPAs Muhammad Yusuf Baloch and Aruba Rabbani, along with senior officials from Hyderabad and Sukkur. The session approved the annual budget and reviewed minutes from previous meetings. Najmi Alam emphasised that the “Sasti Basti” project aligns with the vision of party chairman Bilawal Bhutto, focusing on delivering housing solutions to Sindh’s disadvantaged populations.
Additionally, the meeting sanctioned the creation of demolition squads to address encroachments in slum areas across the province. This move is part of a broader effort to improve living conditions and manage urban growth.

In related news, Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz recently introduced the “Apni Chhat, Apna Ghar” program, which similarly aims to provide affordable housing to residents in Punjab. Dr. Amjad Saqib, founder and chairman of Akhuwat Foundation, praised the initiative and discussed efforts to reduce electricity bills and support homeownership. The launch of “Sasti Basti” underscores the Sindh government’s commitment to enhancing housing accessibility and improving the quality of life for its most vulnerable residents.
