Karachi: The Sindh government on Thursday imposed a rain emergency in six districts of the city amid fears of urban flooding, a news source reported. According to details, Local Government (LG) Secretary Roshan Ali Shaikh imposed the emergency in view of getting the nullahs across the city clean.

During a meeting on the matter, the secretary also approved setting up district-level coordination committees for overseeing all measures required to deal with the rain emergency in all six districts.
Providing his approval to the utilisation of funds for a World Bank (WB) project, the secretary said that under this project, the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) would clean the nullahs. He added that the process of cleaning the stormwater drains in Karachi would begin in five to six days.

On the other hand, the chairman of the District Municipal Corporation (DMC) East Karachi has also requested the release of funds required for cleaning the nullahs.
