Karachi: The Sindh Excise Department plans to launch an online tax deposit facility in January 2020 — in order to make the process more convenient for the residents of the province, a news source reported. Sindh Minister for Excise & Taxation, Narcotics Control, and Parliamentary Affairs Mukesh Kumar Chawla made the announcement during a department meeting held on Thursday.

The minister revealed that during the first phase of the project, the facility will only support the payment of motor vehicle tax. However, he added that they would be expanding the scope of the online service in due time.
Excise & Taxation, and Narcotics Control Director General (DG) Shoaib Ahmed informed the meeting that the online tax facility would work through the use of internet banking via 1 Link. He added that branchless banking like EasyPaisa and MobiCash were also expected to work with this service.
The DG revealed that before launching the Online Tax Collection-Bill Payment facility, they would conduct a massive awareness campaign.

Meanwhile, Chawla stated that this facility will help taxpayers save time, and prevent the inconvenience involved in going to a government office.
