Karachi: The Sindh government on Tuesday approved a proposal for allotting 40 acres of land in the Hawkes Bay area for the development of a grid station that would generate 500 kilowatts (KW) of power, according to news sources.

The decision was taken in a meeting held at the Energy Department to discuss the land issues pertaining to the upcoming energy projects in the province. The meeting also approved the resolution of land issues in various provincial areas, where gas pipelines are to be installed under the Sui Southern Gas Company’s (SSGC) projects.
Minister for Energy Imtiaz Ahmed Sheikh directed the K-Electric (KE) to initiate construction on the grid station at the earliest. He also told the meeting that the provincial government is contributing its best efforts to ensure uninterrupted power supply for the people of Karachi.

The minister directed the deputy commissioners of Umerkot and Tharparkar districts to facilitate the expedited execution of the power generation projects underway there – which are to consume the Thar-extracted coal for power generation. He opined for the private sector firms working on Gharo-Jhimpir wind corridor to adhere to the welfare of the local community under the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) principles.
