Lahore: Provincial Minister of Sindh for Energy Imtiaz Ahmed Shaikh announced that the provincial government is going to be launching the Thar Coal Block-VI project soon — under the auspices of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), according to a news source. As per the publication, this venture is part of the a national strategic project aimed at developing coal mines, among other things.

According to details, the government is also going to install 1320 MW coal-fired power project and produce gas, urea and diesel at the site. This was revealed in a meeting held under between Minister Energy Imtiaz Shaikh and UK-based Company, Oracle CEO Naheed Memon.

Minister Energy Imtiaz Shaikh said that through the efforts of Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah, Thar Block VI has been included as a potential block for coal to gas to urea/fertilizer production in CPEC-related 9th JCC meeting held on November 5, 2019.
The Block VI is the only Block from Thar Coalfield in two working groups under the CPEC framework.
