Karachi: The Government of Sindh has agreed to help the Federal Government regularise katchi abadis in the province and help their residents get access to basic utilities, reported a news source. The information was shared by Sindh Minister for Municipal and Katchi Abadis Saeed Ghani while he addressing a meeting.
According to a survey conducted in 1997, Sindh is home to 1,414 katchi abadis that cover an area of 26,458 acres. Saeed stated that Karachi is home to the largest number of such settlements, the count of which stands at 575. Hyderabad has a total 408 slums, Mirpur Khas 84, Sukkur 91, Larkana 112, and Shaheed Benazirabad has 144.
Out of these 1,414 katchi abadis in Sindh, the government has been officially notified of only 410.
