Karachi: The Government of Sindh has planned to spend PKR 248 million on the beautification of I.I Chundrigar Road, which is the main commercial artery of Karachi, a news source reported. The provincial government would carry out the project under its Annual Development Plan (ADP).

City Commissioner Iftikhar Shallwani stated that the Local Governmnet (LG) Department would take measures to improve I.I Chundrigar Road from Shaheen Complex to Tower as directed by Chief Minister (CM) Syed Murad Ali Shah.
Shallwani revealed that a high-level meeting was held for devising the rehabilitation plan for the road. He added that the provincial government approved the ‘I.I Chundrigar Road Beautification Plan’. He stated that the officials concerned have sent the PC-1 of the project for the CM’s approval. He revealed that they expect the approval to come soon after the upcoming Eid holidays.
The commissioner stated that offices situated along the road have pledged their support for the beautification project. The offices stated that they would ensure no vehicles were parked illegally in front of their premises, he added.
Shallwani stated that vehicle parking would be managed within the Pakistan Railway Ground. He expressed his concerns about the poorly maintained conditions of some buildings along the road. He said that authorities concerned would ensure an uplift for these buildings.
The commissioner said that they plan to hold a meeting with the representatives of the associations of the shopkeepers and owners along I.I Chundrigar Road. The meeting would be aimed at engaging all stakeholders in the improvement project, he added.

Shallwani revealed that the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP), a number of financial institutions including Pakistan Banking Association, and several business and trade organisations situated along the road had shown support for this revamp initiative.
