Karachi: The Government of Sindh has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF), Pakistan to cooperate in an awareness campaign to help improve the province’s environment, according to a news report. This MoU was signed by Sindh Minister for Environment and Coastal Development Taimur Talpur on behalf of the government.
As per the MoU, WWF would help the government and provide technical support through capacity-building, providing high-tech equipment for measuring ambient air quality, and by helping it run a mass awareness campaign across the whole province. Environment Secretary Laeeq Ahmed appreciated this MoU, as the department does face difficulties due to the lack of technical resources and the skilled human resources required to operate them. Talpur appreciated this MoU as a positive step in environmental cooperation and expressed the hope that WWF-Pakistan would also help the department by giving similar support with coastal development.
