Karachi: The Sindh government has launched a grand operation against water theft in Karachi, according to a news report. The purpose of this operation is to curb water theft through illegally-operated water hydrants and pipelines.

The Sindh Chief Secretary Mumtaz Ali Shah announced this operation against water theft at a meeting attended by Local Government Secretary Roshan Ali Sheikh, Karachi Commissioner Iftikhar Ahmed Shallwani, Karachi Water and Sewerage Board (KSWB) chief Asadullah Khan, and representatives from the Pakistan Army and Rangers.

The KSWB chief and the Karachi Commissioner gave an overview of the ongoing and previous efforts undertaken against illegally-operated water hydrants in the city. Khan revealed that the administration had demolished over 194 illegally-operated hydrants, and 300 pipelines across Karachi since 2015. He also told the officials present that over 300 cases had also been registered against individuals responsible for water theft. He alerted them about the presence of 25 more hydrants in District West, and was assured that he would have full administrative and military support for their demolition.
