Karachi: The Sindh government on Thursday announced its decision to establish infectious diseases hospitals in 6 divisional headquarters, a news source reported.

As per the publication, Chief Secretary (CS) Syed Mumtaz Ali Shah presided over a meeting during which the decision was made. Finance Secretary Hassan Naqvi, Health Minister Dr Azra Pechuho, Health Secretary Zahid Abbasi, Planning & Development Board Chairman Muhammad Waseem, and other senior officials were also present on the occasion.

The chief secretary said that the establishment of a 400-bed infectious diseases hospital in Karachi, and a 200-bed infectious diseases hospital each in Sukkur, Hyderabad, Shaheed Benazirabad, Mirpur Khas, and Larkana would cost approximately PKR 10 billion. He directed the divisional commissioners to identify lands in divisional headquarter cities for the construction of the hospitals.

Furthermore, Health Minister Dr Azra Pechuho informed that a 400-bed infectious diseases hospital in Karachi would be made operational soon. She revealed that paramedics would be trained in an institution – which will be established alongside the hospital.
