Karachi: The Sindh government recently decided to disburse PKR 600 million in Zakat funds among registered families, a news source reported.

As per the publication, the decision was taken to assist 94,934 households in the province confronted with severe financial issues due to the ongoing lockdown initiated to combat the novel coronavirus pandemic raging across the country.

The said families are registered with the Zakat and Usher Department, and each will receive PKR 6,000 through their bank accounts. Previously, the living allowance from the Zakat fund was expected to be released in June, but due to the coronavirus pandemic, the funds have been released earlier to manage the situation.

In a separate proceeding, Chief Minister (CM) Sindh Murad Ali Shah announced on his Twitter account that an 88-year old unidentified individual from Karachi had donated PKR 1 million to the “Sindh Coronavirus Emergency Fund” that had been set up earlier to curb the impact of the novel coronavirus and procure the necessary equipment for the care and treatment of its affectees. Additionally, the Sindh government also dispatched 100,000 KN-95 masks to the Punjab government to help it fight the spread of the novel coronavirus in the province.
