The provincial government has amended the Sindh Epidemic Diseases Act 2014. According to details, the amendments are as follows:
- Insertion of the words ‘or Assistant Commissioner or any other Officer’ after Deputy Commissioner in section 3, sub-section (3)
- Introduction of a penalty in section 4
Additionally, the added penalty states that a person found in violation of the orders passed by the government, officers concerned, or the regulations of the act would have to pay a fine up to PKR 1 million or attachment of movable, immovable, or perishable property – or both. This penalty would apply without prejudice to any punishment that may apply to that person under another law enforced for the time being.

Furthermore, the amendment also underlines that the order, of imposing the penalty, has to be in writing and should also contain the reasons for its issuance. It highlights that fine prescribed would be recovered as arrears of land revenue according to the Sindh Land Revenue Act 1967. Sindh’s Law Department has notified the ordinance.
