Karachi: The Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah directed the forest department to work on promoting linear plantation and urban forestry, as per a news report. To this effect, Shah directed that trees be planted along roads, canals, and at strategic locations. Shah gave these directives while chairing a meeting to review the performance of the forestry department.
He stressed the importance of effective tree plantation as a counter measure to increasing temperatures and said that encroached forest land was under litigation and directed officers to cancel illegal allotments.
Forest Additional Chief Secretary Sohail Akbar Shah informed Shah that the department have established new forests over 3,000 acres in riverine areas, conserved 25,000 acres for mangroves, established linear plantation over 400 kilometres, grew 4.54 million container plants, and distributed 9 million saplings during the monsoon season.
