Karachi: The Sindh Government has decided to bring guest houses, commercial units, and private schools into the tax net, a news source reported. Orders to this effect were issued by Minister for Excise and Taxation and Narcotics Control and Parliamentary Affairs Mukesh Kumar.
During a meeting with senior officials, the minister informed the participants that no manual challan for property tax will be issued, while the authorities concerned would overcome staff shortage by rationalising the postings.
Excise, Taxation and Narcotics Control Secretary Abdul Rahim Shaikh, Director Taxes-I and other senior officials attended the meeting.
While giving directives to start assessment of property units as per guidelines, Kumar said that the officers concerned would personally visit and inspect the areas in their jurisdiction. The meeting also gave its approval to establish a taxation court to facilitate property tax recovery.
DG Excise and Taxation Shabbir Ahmed Shaikh later briefed the meeting about the steps taken regarding recovery of property taxes and ensuring proper attendance of the officers.
