According to the specifics, the proposed ‘The Sindh Commission for Regularisation of Construction Ordinance, 2021’ will involve a six-member commission led by a former Supreme Court of Sindh High Court (SHC) Judge. The remaining members of the commission will be nominated by the Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah. The commission will be in charge of hearing petitions and imposing fines for multi-storey high rises or housing schemes developed unlawfully or on encroached property. The commission will also be allowed to legalise structures whose removal is predicted to exacerbate public tragedy and humanitarian disaster.

Talking to the presser, Murtaza Wahab stated that the ordinance is the same as that adopted by Punjab for the legalisation of unlawful housing schemes. However, a specific provision in the legislation has been introduced to prevent building demolition until the matter is decided by the commission. According to the administrator, the ordinance will aid in the protection of residents’ basic human rights.
