Karachi: Sindh Chief Minister (CM) Syed Murad Ali Shah on Wednesday ordered the cleaning of drains in the city ahead of the monsoon season, a news source reported. He gave the said directives during a preparatory meeting held to review measures for the upcoming rainy season in the province.

The CM directed the authorities concerned to clean all major drains in Karachi on a priority basis to prevent inconvenience during the heavy rains expected because of climate change. To this effect, he ordered the District Municipal Corporation (DMC) and the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) to clean the drains of the areas concerned in the city.
Moreover, CM Shah revealed that the Sindh government would provide funds required for this project. He further issued orders to the Water Board to fix the drainage system of the city.

Earlier, the World Bank (WB) had also announced to fund the cleaning of drains in the city, along with uplift of the Jam Chakro landfill site. The bank had announced its decision to provide funds worth USD 15 million for this purpose.
