Karachi: Sindh Chief Minister (CM) Syed Murad Ali Shah on Wednesday directed the Local Government (LG) departments to formulate a plan for cleaning and repairing the watercourses in the province, a news source reported.

During an emergency meeting on the matter, the CM asked for a detailed plan for the desilting, cleaning, and repairing of nullahs and natural storm water drains so that the provincial government could release the required funds in time. He further expressed his desire for all DCs, water boards, and local bodies to collaborate while formulating the rain emergency plan.
CM Shah highlighted that the USD 11 million World Bank (WB) project would likely start within the coming four months. He added that under this project, all major nullahs of Karachi would be lined. He also directed the Karachi Mayor to accelerate the ongoing work on the Mehran Nala in order to prevent it from overflowing and creating havoc in Saadi Town.

The CM also addressed the local authorities of Hyderabad, Shaheed Benazirabad division, and Mirpurkhas, and asked them to ensure that the sewerage system in these areas were cleaned and repaired in time for the fast approaching monsoon season.
