Karachi: The provincial cabinet on Monday approved the ‘Sindh COVID-19 Emergency Relief Ordinance 2020’ to facilitate private sector jobs security, reduction in school fees, and discount provisions (at various stages) in electricity bills, a news source reported.

The provincial chief minister (CM) chaired the meeting during which the relief ordinance was approved and dispatched to Sindh Governor Imran Ismail for ratification.
The ordinance ensures that no employee would be removed from their job and those working in the private sector would timely receive their salaries. The emergency ordinance also states school fees to be waived off by 20 percent for the months of April and May.

The meeting was further informed that although the relief ordinance protected the jobs, it allowed the employers to implement deductions in salaries. Additionally, the ordinance demands that the private sector companies pay employees their salaries on time. The ordinance further states that electricity bills will be given discounts at various stages. Furthermore, discounts on house rent and gas consumptions are also included in the relief ordinance.
