Sialkot: Sialkot Industrialists have been labelled the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) torch bearers of the country by the Deputy Commissioner (DC) of Sialkot, a news source reported. DC Sialkot Umer Sher Chattha made this statement while speaking at a workshop on climate change held at Sialkot Chamber of Commerce and Industry. He commended the efforts of the business community of the city, adding that they had taken significant steps to develop infrastructure and social services in Pakistan for many years.

The workshop, titled “Climate Change: Emerging Issues, Adaptation Challenges and Recommendations for Leather Sector in Sialkot”, was organised by the Sialkot Tannery Association after they recently initiated a fully equipped tannery zone. This is a significant leap for the Association in their bid to modernise the local leather industry in an environmentally friendly way.

The DC added that the collaboration between the Sialkot Tannery Association and the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) on this project is a very important public-private partnership in the country. Once completed, it will relieve locals from environmental issues stemming from the tanning industry, such as contaminated water. It is also a great opportunity for further development in the leather industry in Sialkot.
