Karachi: The city administration began the process of allotting shops to those affected by the encroachment drive on Wednesday, a news source reported. Alternative shops were provided to around 1,433 shopkeepers in an event attended by Karachi Mayor Waseem Akhtar.

The Mayor allotted shops in the following order:
- Vendors of Empress Market in Ranchor Lene Market
- Shopping Centre vendors in Shahabuddin PIDC Market
- Umar Farooq Market’s shopkeepers in Khadda Market
- Khori Garden Miraj Market vendors in Furniture Market
- Baloch Park vendors in Nazimabad no.2
- Jinnah Market’s shopkeepers in Soldier Bazar Market
Several shopkeepers were provided shops in Frere Market. A lucky dray was carried out to ensure a transparent allotment process.

Speaking at the event, the Mayor stated that he had fulfilled his promise of allocating shops to the affectees of the encroachment drive.
Major cities across the country have undergone similar land clearing campaigns.
