Karachi: The city administration on Friday issued a No Objection Certificate (NOC) to the Cable Operators Association — for the purpose of laying underground cables in common corridor Karachi Division , a news source reported. As per the directives of the officials concerned, operators are allowed to dig up service lanes, footpaths, roads, and streets for this purpose and have been provided with one month’s time to complete the project.

As per Karachi Commissioner Iftikhar Shallwani, the initiative is being developed as part of the ongoing beautification drive underway in the city. During the meeting held to discuss the matter, the commissioner stated that obtrusive and unnecessary poles and cables made the city look unappealing, and were also against safety guidelines.

He added that the cable operators who dig up the roads will be solely responsible for repairing them once work has been completed. The Cable Operators Association was directed to follow the given deadline strictly, as per the terms and conditions of the NOC.
