Lahore: The Quaid-e-Azam Apparel Park near Motorway in Sheikhupura is slated for inauguration in March, a news source quoted Provincial Minister for Industries & Trade Mian Aslam Iqbal. He added that Prime Minister (PM) Imran Khan would inaugurate the said special economic zone (SEZ).

The minister revealed the information in a meeting held with a delegation of the Faisalabad Chamber of Commerce & Industry (FCCI). FCCI President Rana Sikandar-e-Aazam led the delegation.
Iqbal informed the delegation that the government would provide special incentives to the industrialists interested in the Sheikhupura SEZ. He added that they would also have plots available at subsidised rates for setting up industrial units.
Furthermore, he told the FCCI representatives that the government would set up an expo centre on 50 acres of land in Faisalabad, which is a major industrial city of the country. He added that this measure would provide a platform for exhibiting local products.

Meanwhile, Iqbal ordered the Managing Director (MD) Punjab Small Industries Corporation to visit the small industrial estate situated along Sargodha Road in order to resolve the issues present there. He added that the departments concerned would also review the proposal for shifting Ghalla Mandi and its associated industries out of the city.
The provincial minister assured that they would continue the process of consultation for the promotion of industrialisation in the province, along with controlling price hikes. He added that he would remain committed to playing an effective role in resolving the problems faced by industrialists. He further told the FCCI delegation that the continued establishment of SEZs in Punjab would change the province’s economic condition.

The representatives from FCCI briefed the minister regarding the problems of the local industry of Faisalabad. These included issues pertaining to filers and non-filers of taxes, the provision of 5 acres of land for the chamber, and the Punjab Small Industries Policy 2019, among other local industry problems.
