Karachi: The Sindh High Court (SHC) on Monday (October 18) ordered the city government to restore amenity parks located in Lerp Taiser Town (Scheme 45), news sources reported. The directions were given to Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) and the Lyari Expressway Resettlement Project (LERP) on a petition hearing against the illegal occupation of the amenity parks.

The LERP council informed the court that the amenity park had been converted into residential plots to accommodate the Lyari Expressway project’s affected families. However, KMC and Sindh Building Control Authority (SCBA) told the court that the project’s blueprint depicts the land as an amenity park. Subsequently, the court ordered the authorities to return the plot to its intended use within a month, with a compliance report due at the conclusion of the time.

The court maintained that the plots could not be repurposed under any circumstances if the original master plan did not permit it.
