Karachi: The Sindh High Court (SHC) on Friday (October 1) ordered the authorities concerned to stop the demolition and sealing of commercial and industrial units in Mehran Town, according to media reports.

A single-judge bench headed by Justice Syed Hassan Azhar Rizvi issued notices to Sindh Building Control Authority (SBCA), Karachi Development Authority (KDA), advocate general, and local government secretary for October 20.
It was reported that the SHC’s interim restraining order will be considered null and void if the Supreme Court (SC) has passed any order related to the land, where plots were located. Moreover, it was disclosed that KDA has cancelled allotment orders of 1,400 plots in Mehran Town, Korangi because of the misuse of residential plots for commercial purposes.

According to details, three suits were filed against an industrial unit in Mehran Town. The counsel mentioned that all 160 sq yds plots were designed for industrial use and the plot owners were granted no-objection certificates for commercial and industrial use. It was also revealed that the plaintiffs were conducting legal business and the defendants were trying to demolish the unit with the approval of authorities concerned without any notice.
