Hyderabad: The Hyderabad Bench of the Sindh High Court (SHC) recently directed the Water and Sanitation Agency (WASA) to take action against illegal car wash stations operating in the city, according to a news source.
The two-judge bench comprising Justice Mohammad Iqbal Kalhoro and Justice Amjad Ali Sahito instructed WASA to submit the details of the stations operating on the licences issued by the competent authority.
The justices asked the managing director (MD) of WASA to discuss the installation of water recycling plants with the licensed service stations. They reiterated that these stations should take all possible measures to recycle water, due to it being a scarce resource.
In response, Local Government Deputy Director Shahabuddin told the bench that there were 60 service stations in Hyderabad licensed by WASA. The bench ordered him to submit the details of these stations and take action against all the illegal ones in the city. Justice Kalhoro also directed the MD to ensure the installation of water metres at every service station to measure the amount of water they use and apply tariffs accordingly.
