Karachi: The Sindh High Court (SHC) recently directed local transporters to carefully consider the Sindh government’s report on the coronavirus pandemic before resuming their services — a news source reported. In this regard, the court was informed that the Sindh Transport and Mass Transit Department had prepared the necessary operational framework for the purpose.

A two-member of bench of the court was hearing a petition to place restrictions on inter-city and intra-city public transport. The petitioner had also contended that standard operating procedures (SOPs) should be implemented in consultation with the provincial authorities.

Other pleas included requests to direct bus drivers to ensure that passengers are seated one seat apart from one another, and that the use of air-conditioner in buses should be restricted. Additionally, the court was also requested that all SOPs, such as the use of disinfectants, sanitizers and face masks should be implemented at all times.
