Lahore: Authorities have finished 85% of the construction work on Shaukat Khanum Flyover and the structure will be completed by December 5, a source quoted Punjab Minister for Housing Mian Mehmood-ur-Rasheed, who visited the project site for inspection. The project is being completed at a cost of approximately PKR 903 million and faced delays due to financial constraints at various steps.
Project Director Iqrar Hussain informed the minister that more than 85% work on the project has been completed but only 50% of the payment could be made to date.
The Lahore Development Authority (LDA) moved the completion deadline a few times, and the import of flyover joints had been delayed due to unavoidable circumstances. Now, these joints have been imported and installed, so the project is almost complete, with the exception of sewerage works, which would take some time.
This PKR 903 million project was undertaken along with the expansion of Khayaban-e-Jinnah from Shaukat Khanum to Raiwind Road, a project costing PKR 460 million.
The construction of the flyover had been initiated in March and the expansion had begun in April, so the opening of these avenues for traffic has come as a sigh of relief for residents in the surrounding areas.
