The project is part of Punjab Chief Minister Sardar Usman Buzdar’s new Lahore Development Package – under which four road infrastructure projects are being developed. Under this package, three flyovers and an underpass will be constructed on Shahkam Chowk, Sheranwala Gate, Karim Block Crossing and Ferozepur Road opposite the Gulab Devi Hospital.

Previously, LDA had sought applications for prequalification of contractors and engineering firms for construction of the project which is to be submitted by February 4 for evaluation. The Shahkam Chowk flyover is expected to remove the traffic bottlenecks that plague the traffic daily due to an abundance of residential societies and educational institutes on the Defense Road. Reports have also been circulating the real estate circles that after the construction of the project, property prices are expected to spike in the surroundings.
