Lahore: Punjab Industries and Commerce Secretary Lt (r) Sohail Ashraf on Wednesday (January 18) said that the Special Economic Zones (SEZs) are crucial for the economic development of the country, news sources reported.

Speaking to the media, Secretary Ashraf said that all the SEZs will be provided with all the facilities and amenities that will be crucial for the industrialization and colonisation of the vacant industrial plots. He also took stock of the ongoing development including the vacant plots, prices of plots, pending dues by the industries, and provision of electricity and gas and other ancillary facilities. He also visited the various industrial estate of Allama Iqbal Industrial City and the M-3 Industrial Estate of the Faisalabad Industrial Estate and Development Management Company (FIEDMC) and inspected the development works.

It is important to note that Pakistan is currently developing nine industrial estates across the country under China-Pakistan-Economic-Corridor (CPEC). The SEZs are being promoted as the most important step of the CPEC Phase II to enhance economic development.
