Beijing: Several countries in the Middle East and Africa have expressed their interest in joining the China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), according to a news report. Saudi Arabia’s ambassador to Pakistan also voiced his country’s interest of investing in Gwadar, because of their interest in CPEC.
Earlier in March this year, the United Arab Emirates (UAE) also started commercial shipping under CPEC through Gwadar. The container service named Karachi-Gulf Express connects Gwadar Port with Jebel Ali, Abu Dhabi, and Sharjah. China also fulfils almost 50% of its oil requirements from the Middle East, and the pipeline from Gwadar to Xinjiang will diversify its oil import routes.
