Islamabad: The Capital Development Authority (CDA) has blacklisted 73 housing societies that advertised the sale of plots without the authority’s approval.
According to a news source, the illegal housing societies have been in business for over a decade. Over this time frame, the owners have sold thousands of plots, resulting in a multi-million rupee scam.
The list was enclosed with a letter to Islamabad Electric Supply Company, Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Ltd, and Pakistan Telecommunication Company Ltd (PTCL), directing these government departments not to issue connections to these illegal housing schemes.
The public has also been directed not to engage in the sale and purchase of plots in these societies, although residents claim they have legal ownership documents and have been paying utility bills since the time of inception.
Allegedly, neither the CDA nor the owners informed residents about the illegal status of the societies and the issue was only discovered when PTCL and Sui Northern Gas declined to provide connections.
The issue is currently under the CDA’s scrutiny. The fate of the residents is undecided right now, as is the action that will be taken against these schemes.
