Gujrat: The authorities concerned on Wednesday retrieved 75 acres of state land from illegal occupants – a news source reported.
The land, worth at least PKR 300 million, was handed over to the forest department. The Anti-Corruption Establishment (ACE) previously launched an inquiry against negligent officials.

The operation was carried out under the supervision of Sajjad Gondal, ACE deputy director. It was conducted in the Jalalpur Subtian and Parsuwal areas of tehsil Gujrat.
The Punjab Forest Department had last year set up a geographical laboratory. The government said it intended to map the country’s forest cover. Later on, the use of advanced technology facilitated mapping of over 750,000 acres.

The forest department will also document the number and area of forests in the province. Department officials said they were developing a web portal and mobile application for the purpose. The Punjab Information Technology Board (PITB) had been assisting the forest department in this regard.
