Peshawar: Pakhtunkhwa Energy Development Organisation Chief Engineer Naeem Khan on Wednesday (December 08) announced that the provincial government is working on seven hydel energy projects, news sources reported. He said that in addition to this, the government is also building nine grid stations in the merged districts.

As per the reported news, the seven hydel projects would yield a total of 232.8 Megawatts (MW) of cheap electricity. The seven projects include the following:
- 84 MW clean energy Mittaltan hydel project
- 69 MW hydroelectric project of Lavi
- 40.8 MW Koto hydro-electric project
- 11.8 MW Carora hydel project
- 10.5 MW Chapri Charkhel project
- 10.2 MW Jabori Hydel project
- 6.5 MW Brando hydel project

Furthermore, the chief engineer stated that three mega hydroelectric projects of 300 MW Balakot Hydropower Project – supported by Asian Development Bank (ADB) – and two projects; 157 MW at Madin Swat and 88 MW hydropower plants at Gabral Kalam – supported by World Bank (WB) – are also currently under construction. Moreover, he said that the government has formed a special Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa Transmission and Grid Company to tackle electricity distribution and grid management.
