Rawalpindi: Rawalpindi Development Authority (RDA) has placed a ban on setting up housing schemes in forestland reserved in three tehsils of the district, reported a news source. The tehsils include Murree, Kahuta and Kotli Satiyan. The ban is placed in pursuance of the orders issued by the Supreme Court of Pakistan.
The RDA has allotted the status of ‘States’ Land’ to the rural settlements and areas marked for the Forest Department in the tehsils mentioned. The authority, however, has allowed the sale and purchase of land in rural settlements. Following this announcement, no private housing scheme can be launched on the aforementioned States’ Land.
Previously, the tehsils mentioned attracted real estate developers due to their scenic beauty. In the absence of any development ban, many private housing schemes were set up on their land.
The development authority has exempted Tehsils Rawalpindi, Gojar Khan, Kallar Syeda, and Taxila from the ban.
